According to my scale, I seem to have misplaced 5 pounds. I will be gonig to the gym later (probably) to check, but, in the meantime, if any of you see these pounds, please return them to me.

I mean, really. I thought you were supposed to be heavier the closer to your period. WTF????

Also, it's come to my attention that virgins are not supposed to write sex scenes. Therefore, I will stop immediatly. From here on out, all my fics shall be PG, if that. Maybe people who haven't extensively made out with another person shouldn't write make-out scenes, either. In that case, I shall be forced to stick to short kissing scenes.

That is all.

I'll make you a deal. Since I'm too nervous to write sex scenes, but not a virgin, you can have my "non-virgin credit card" or whatever to use for your own sex scenes.

Deal?

Okay, I guess I'll take that deal. I think it'd be easier if someone would be interested in me and I'd be interested in them and then I could take care of my little "problem", but the non-virgin credit card works too. Thanks! :)

It's absolutely true, you know.

While you are reevaluating, I think you should also give serious thought to other issues I've noticed in your writing. For example: some of your characters (who shall remain unnamed) are of a different gender than you (for shame!), some have different jobs than you (shame!,) and ALL of them are in a different town than you (shame! shame!).

Tell the truth!! Have you ever even been to Kansas?!?

Frankly, I'm glad you've finally figured this out. The hours and hours I've spend reading your fics have been torturous.

I look forward to your forthcoming G rated stories about substitute teachers.
[/sarcasm]

Sorry, couldn't resist. I've very much enjoyed your sex scenes and I hope who ever has bothered you about this included some suggestions for how to improve the realism of sex scenes between psychically joined lovers. Hope your missing 5 turns up none the worse for its absence. *Hugs* bt

*dies laughing* Oh, God, I love your response. I'm so not an advocate of the way most people take "write what you know" anyway. I "know" vampires and psychic links and love and sex, damn it. Screw "experience". :)

No one actually said this directly to me, it's just a sentiment I've seen echo-ed around and often. Today I saw someone say *they* don't write sex scenes because they firmly believe that virgins shouldn't attempt to write sex, which I think it just sad.

Thanks for the laugh!

Realism, schealism.

Well, I'm glad to hear you weren't getting accusatory emails. I have to agree with you in your scoffing. I dunno. Maybe I'd feel differently if all those virgin writers out there were putting experienced non-virgin writers out of work, and preventing the full gamut of smut to reach the internet. Lucky that isn't the case. I see no picket lines or strikers. Trying to establish some kind of rule for who should or should not write about sex is a load of crap. Go you, with vampires and bumpy psychic nodes. :)

virgins are not supposed to write sex scenes.

I never got that memo!!!

Next thing you'll be telling me straight women aren't supposed to be writing about gay men.

I heard some straight women write very inappropriate scenes where two men have sex with each other and that these women like it! Please tell me this isn't true?!?

Those be some strange rumors you're hearing. Women don't even *like* sex. They're just not *interested* in it, k? So don't worry about this lie you've heard. It's not true.

Does this mean that, as a lesbian, I can never write porn about men because I neither possess, nor have any interest in seeing a penis?

I think that the people saying this are assuming that all virgins are in their teens, and/or relatively uninformed about sex. A good writer can easily express something that they have no personally experience.

And hi! Just breezing in from other people's journals. Sorry about just butting in.

Absolutley not! Whatever are you thinking? Jeeze. ;)

Yeah, I figured that's what most people mean. What I was really reacting to today was someone who said one of the reasons she does't write sex scenes is because she believes virgins shouldn't write sex. I don't know her at all (I was surfing friendsfriends at the time), but she didn't seem like a teenager, and I thought that was just really sad. Even if the first few times you write it aren't very good, there's tons of fics to use as 'research' to get the lingo down, and then something called imagination to work out the rest.

And hi! Just breezing in from other people's journals. Sorry about just butting in.

Hi! I always love new people dropping in, so, welcome! :)

Whoever told you this was wrong, wrong, wrong! You write wonderful sex and making out scenes, Serafina, whether or not you have experience!

They didn't tell me, so don't worry about my stuff being personally insulted. I really dont' think people would be able to tell my lack of experiences (or at least, i hope not) unless I told them. I just happened to see that comment again, and it's about the tenth time in the past few months, so I decided to finall "come to my senses." But, don't worry. I've changed my mind. :)

Yeah fuck those people who say that. Where did you hear that? I'm just curious because I've come across the same thing a decent bit and I wanted to know if we're hearing it from the same source.

I've heard it around. A few times it's been on one of those fanfic manifesto things, were people decree what you can and cannot do in fanfic. There was one recently posted to [livejournal.com profile] metablog if you wanted to look; I don't remember who said it.

This time it was in reference to [livejournal.com profile] fandom_scruples The person said that she didn't read much smut fic anyway, and she never wrote it because she firmly believes that virgins should not write sex, but policing bad, not responsiblity, blah blah. I just thought it was such a strange attitude to take on one's own writing. I know i feel more comfortable writing m/m sex because the pressure to get it exactly right isn't there. I'm never going to experience gay sex from a male's POV, so I can write what turns me on. It's a little more stressful for het and f/f, simply because I plan on having at least one of those types of sex one day, and, knowing me, I'll be embarrassed at myself if I "get it wrong." {g}

Just like writing in general, it's going to depend on the writer how good the sex scene is. And the more you pratice writing, the better the scenes will be. I'm just sick of hearing that.
