I wonder why Rachel Dunleavy didn't buy the house under the name Lucas *Dunleavy* instead of Luthor. Even if he was Lionel's son, wouldn't the name that appeared on his birth certificate have been hers and not his? Or can the mother choose what last name goes on, even if she's not leagally married to the father and he's not involved with the baby?

In Lineage, she buys the house under, "Lucas Luthor." It just seemed to me that if she wanted *her* son, it'd be Lucas Dunleavy. They never say his name in "Prodigal", but I also assumed it'd be Dunleavy. So I guess my question has less to do with the legality of the issue and more of the rational (although I do conceed that she is not exactly rational)
