Do virgins who write sex scenes focus more on inner stuff (emotions/thoughts) than mechanics? Do I is what I'm really getting at and, if you know of any other virgins writing sex fics, do they?

Just wondering. Someone said that over at pottersues and it got me thinking and wondering. So. Feedback is much appreciated. How well (or not well) do I write sex and what would you say my focus is?

I think you do a really good job of balancing the two sweetie. I find your sex scenes really tender and sexy but totally believable at the same time.

Hope that makes sense.

*hugs*

Hmmm. As a virgin who's written sex scenes, I think that I actually focus on the mechanics more than the emotions. This is an interesting question; I think honestly that the writing style has more to do with how you write sex scenes than your sexual experience. Especially when we're talking about slash, since most writers, even if they aren't virgins, have never been a gay man having sex. *grin*

I think you write sex scenes very well. You have a good balance, and you show how the physical experience affects the emotions and vice versa.

You've written some of my favorite sex scenes. They're graphically descriptive, but never formulaic or boring. They're both hot and romantic. I'm never disappointed on the first reading and I never skip over them, even when I'm rereading one of your fics for the umpteenth time.

Sex scenes are something that vary from writer to writer. And I also think it varies from stage to stage in the writing process. At any stage in a writer's development they may write a sex scene differently. I admit to being a romance novel nut. Read way too many of them in my day. But one thing I've found is that the longer some romance novelists write, the more they break away from the way they start out writing. Tone changes in sex scenes over time.

I don't think writing more emotionally versus more graphically has anything to do with sexual experience. It's where the writer feels the most importance should be placed.

In my opinion, it seems that most virgins (not you) focus on the mechanics and not the emotions. But, then again, I think it is all up to the author and how they write and their style. But, no, in general, I disagree with the person's premise.

I think you write marvelous sex scenes.

And I don't think virginity has as much of an effect as empathy, imagination and writing talent. I can't write a good sex scene to save my life and I have the experiences to draw on *G*.
