The last thing Clark was expecting when he walked into the bathroom was for a door to come flying at him. He ducked, heart pounding, immediately hype-aware of his surroundings and looking for danger.
What he found was a heavy-breathing, red-faced Whitney, who was glaring at him with murder in his eyes.
"Whitney," Clark said, immediately concerned and trying to ignore the look.
"What's going on between you and Lana?"
"Nothing."
"Don't lie to me, Kent." He rushed Clark, backing him against the wall. One arm pressed against his neck.
"Jesus, Whitney!" Clark exclaimed, clutching at Whitney's sweater. "Nothing is going on, you know that. I've written you every week since you've left, and I'd have told you. You know that I'm..." Clark stopped talking abruptly as the realization that Whitney didn't know he was with Lex washed over him. And if Whitney didn't know, then this wasn't his Whitney.
He went numb. Whitney was still leaning on him, pinning him to the door and it was terrifying because, God, this wasn't Whitney.

Date: 2004-07-22 04:56 pm (UTC)I really like the way you explained Lex's reaction to his new healthy body, it will be interesting when he remembers about his condition before the meteor strike.
With Helen working inside the possibility of Lex doing something foolish to try and protect Clark's secrets is there. If you decide to stick close to Lex's Season in Hell story arc, you have enough elements to make it work.
I am so happy that you broke with canon for Whitney. I'm looking forward to seeing him and Mark together.
This is one I truly enjoyed.

Thank you! Helen's a hard character to work with just because her motivations were never really clearly explained. I like writing the character, but I really have to lay down her motivations for everythign from scratch. It's fun, and I'm happy with the results, but it's hard.

Ys, Whitney is very much alive. I just couldn' bring myself to kill him. As for his fingers and eye, well, I almost made him lose his leg. But then I remembered I'd done that to Riley over in Buffy-fic, and didn't want to repeat myself. Besides, I think Whitney really would look sexy in an eyepatch. ;P

Hey, you don't have to like her at all. She's a very weird character. All I want to do is give her actual motivation instead of, "Oooh! Money! Yay!" Unlike some writers, I'm going to try and make my characters make sense (glares at Almiles)
