I totally agree with you. I just got back from seeing it with my husband, and you hit on everything I was telling him that I hated about it. I also think that the plot was majorly sacrificed for more totally overdone and overblown action sequences that could have been cut.

And that's what bothers me the most. I'm really easy when it comes to action movies,and as long as I'm entertained, I'm fine with things. The bad part is, SS was so devoted to using every last cent of his special effects budget, he sacrificed better ideas that were more organic to the plot. He still could have had kick-ass fight scenes and special effects without the stupid werewolf twist.
I've been thinking about it more and i've decided i wouldn't have minded the Van Helsing/werewolf thing as much had they realized the only thing that could kill Dracula was a werewolf *before* Van Helsing had been bitten. That way, he could have made the sacrifice, they battle for the serum would have been more effecting, and the whole thing would have been less contrived.
