Not many. It was a great episode. A hard episode to watch, and I had to watch it alone *glares at little sister*, but it was good. Also not one I'll be watching many times.
I loved how Clark fought so hard to get to Lex. He cares so much, and the fact that everything he did failed is going to stay with him forever. I'm not sure what was going on during that month, but I have a feeing he was, at least, trying to research to get enough evidence that Lex wasn't crazy. When that didn't work, the episode happened. I love how he did try to go through legal channels first, and then burst into the rescue.
I really think he wanted to tell Lex at the end, but the wounds were still too fresh. Especially since he knows that Lionel has bugged Lex's office before. I think that, besides being afraid of ruining Lex's newfound happiness, he's afraid of staring everything again. Yes, Lex would know how to react better now that he knows what a bastard Lionel is, but I understand Clark's fear.
The thing is, though, this is all necessary. I'm convinced that Clark and Lex could remain friends forever, while Lex and Superman are enemies, but there are two problems with that:
1. Lex has to know. I don't give a flying fuck if he doesn't remember right now (and it did occur to me, as
And 2, I have a feeling the producers (who are, I'll admit, heavily influenced by years of tradition they may not want to break) won't want to go in that direction. They'll keep it at a heavily emotional hatred that used to be love thing.
However, my point is: There is going to be a rift. It's better if it comes from both sides. More interesting. It'll give Clark a *reason* not to work harder to put Lex away. He feels responsible, so works harder.
I do, however, hope that the writers start bringing out the ambiguous scientist, ends justify the means Lex in some ways. I don't want the rift to solely be caused by the fact Clark wasn't able to save him. I want him to have some part in that.
Anyway, so, yes, this is where the rift begins. We knew it was coming. Fan fic is for denial (and its' what's really happening) but the show has to show what the world expects.
I hate Jonathan, I hate Lionel, and I hate Martha. Everything they did was completely incomprehensible.
The Lana storyline didn't seem to fit, but I liked her in it. And, she has a nice ass. The Pretty isn't as pretty as I'd hoped he would be, but he's still right for Daniel (a character in a novel I'm writing), so that's cool.
Pete'd outburst would have been more interesting had we gotten more of his frustration in past episodes. Show not tell, guys.
I liked the meteor mutant's subplot. I'm not convinced that was Shawn Ashmore. I think it was his twin brother, and that's why the lighting was so dim: so we couldn't see any differences there might be. ;)
So, it was a good episode. I didn't exactly enjoy it, but it was still good. I love Clark, I love Lex, they're so in love. If you hate Clark, please don't comment about that; I don't want to hear it (not that you'd say anything anyway, because most people don't, but just in case;).
This was the first show I've seen where my immediate reaction was, "I need more COTW now!" Unfortunately, I have to write it. *sigh* Life sucks.

SOmeone else pointed out that, after what Pete said, Clark's really realizing what burden the secret is. He's lived with it his whole life (his powers, not the alien part) and, although it's hard at times, he's also used to it. But after the traumatic experience Lex has been through, and after seeing Lex suffer for something that he had no control over, I completely understand why Clark is so hesitant to put this burden on someone he cares about so much. Yes, Lex is better prepared to deal with it than Pete was, but now Clark is making a concious choice not to protect *himself*, but to protect *Lex* from future harm.
It might not, in the long run, be the choice that will save Lex, but this show isn't about saving Lex.
