Questions and Perry
Oct. 30th, 2003 06:59 pm1. What does it mean to bury your lead? I think I get it, but I'd like to hear it from someone more informed than I am.
2. In the type of cars Lex has, do the front seats recline, or is there no where for them to go? I honestly have no idea what they look like inside. And, would they be leather interior?
Not much to say except that I loved every second of it. It was well written, fast paced, and very well acted. My only quibble is that if Clark's tearing off the door of Perry's car was supposed to be due to his out of control powers, then he needs to stop doing it under normal circumstances. I even took him super speeding Perry out of the car at face value, even though I thought it was dumb, then later I realized he wasn't in control of his powers. But, yeah, have Clark stop destroying property and throwing everyone tweny feet all the time, and the episode would be better.
The rest was ... great. I loved Lex. He was wonderful in his anger and going out of control. I hope the pyschologist is for real, because I'm sick of everyone betraying him.
I liked Lana. Even though I was giggling at the idea that she's spent the last 14 years trying to put it behind her, and she didn't want to talk about it, I totally bought where she was coming from. I see her constantly bringing up the past and not being able to let it go; Lana sees herself as constantly trying to move on and not being allowed to. I just wish she was able to see the main person holding her back was herself ... except, she may have at the end. We'll have to see what happens after next week's episode (of which I'm trying to withhold judgement, but I cannot help but think of scornfully).
Chloe's hair was great. There's a part of me that wants to cut it like hers. And I liked her character this week. Except for the dumb thumb over Perry's first name. The rest was cool.
That one duded had something to do. Can't remember what product he pushed, though.
Clark is pretty. I spent the last scene between him and Perry cooing over that fact. And I loved their interactions.
Oh, and Perry? He's so going to know. He has to. How can he look at Clark, and look at what he said about Clark, and not realize Clark and Superman are the same person. Does he know in the comics? Because I'm comics clueless, but I think it's an interesting idea if he does know.
Okay, I need to write. Seriously. Still working on the 'Ryan' COTW fic. Oh, and I think I'm going to have to title one of the fics Corner of the World (#): Corner of the World. Can I do that?

Date: 2003-10-30 07:31 pm (UTC)1) In reporting a story it's supposed to be written in the form of an inverted pyramid, i.e. the most important facts to the least important. Burying the lead is when a writer doesn't follow this format, they let the crux of the story get buried in the less important details of the story. That's why journalistic writing is supposed to be short, crisp and to the point. You're not supposed to lose the message in the midst of flowery prose.
2) I don't know about the really expensive rides like Lex has but I used to do the newspaper ads for the local Lexus/BMW dealer here in Louisville, they have leather seats. They also are heated and have controls to adjust the degree of softness against your butt but that's beside the point. :)
Hope that this helps.

Date: 2003-10-30 08:14 pm (UTC)For instance, instead of Lionel Luthor, long known as The Magnificent Bastard on message boards across the Internet, has been terrorizing Smallville and Metropolis citizens for years, blah blah blah, two paragraphs pass, then
Intrepid girl reporter Chloe Sullivan recently uncovered evidence indicating that Luthor is involved in human cloning, using mysterious meteor rock as its source.
Human cloning should be the screaming lead, you know? Not all the things everyone already knows about Lionel being a nasty s.o.b.
It's quite possible that I buried a few leads in my early days of journalism. Heh. I'm well acquainted with the term.
You would look really cute with a Chloe cut, btw.

Thanks, but I decided not to go that way. Instead, i've got it all one length in a bob type thing. Maybe next time. :)
