First off, I'm begging anyone who will listen: Please! Can come please make me a Clex icon? One of Clark and Lex in some sort of position that makes them look like the lovers/soulmates they are? I will do anything in return: beta, sing your praises, dance naked under the stars screaming your name, attempt to write a fic with your name splashed in the dedication. Just, please. Need Clex icon.

Thank you.

So. There were parts of me that were a little let down by the episode. I understand the glossing over of Clark's crimes because the rest of the show can't be, "Clark Kent, Superboy in Jail." And I get the Kent's being willing to, at least for the moment, let go Clark leaving and what he did. I also totally buy Martha not blaming Clark about the baby; that was Jonathan's gig.

However, I would have liked the reunion scene to be less rushed. Let Clark sit down with his parents and *talk* about how much he missed him, and how sorry he was. I also would have liked to see him tell them the reasons why he wasn't sure if he was going to say. I understand it, but I think that, for storytelling purposes, it would have been better to articulate it to both is parents and the audience. Especially since the Clark who came back is a lot more self confident and articulate than the one that left.

So, at about the half an hour mark, I was feeling a little let down. However, the last half was solid enough that by the end of the show, I was happy again.

So, The Good

Clark. I think I'm going to like this Clark. I like the idea that he's comfortable with himself, that he can acknowledge his dark side without being afraid of it. I think this Superman will be extremely empathetic with Lex, unless he's so hurt by the betrayal, he forgets about the dark side within himself. I like his apology to Chloe and his interactions with her. I like that he still wasn't sure if he wanted to stay, and the feeling I got from him that, if he did leave, he was going to go somewhere else and atone for what he'd done. It was simply to painful to do it near all the people he'd hurt. I loved the look on his face when he saw Lex. :) And I liked that he finally saw what he and Lana were doing to each other: he was trying to change for her while trying to remain true to what he thought she was, and nothing was good enough for her. And he couldn't be what she needed, so he wasn't being fair to her by keeping the possibility open. I just hope that they don't revert back.

Chloe. Liked her hair, liked the mature, calm way in which she dealt with Clark, and I liked that she at least got annoyed with Lana. My girl was beautiful last night.

Lex. Lex is getting to complicated for me, not to love, but to talk about. If I'd liked the Helen arch at all, maybe I'd be happy with what he did, but I just can't buy it on so many levels. And none of the levels come from him, to tell the truth. I can buy him wanting to get revenge, and I can buy the method of revenge, but I'm so pissed at how much they screwed up the storyline and then tried to fix it at the last second, and I don't buy that she'd get on the plan with him that .... Oh, wait. This was the good. ;)

Anyway, Lex is now playing it *very* close to the vest, and it looks like he has mastered the art of playing. Unless, and I do think this is a possibility, he was sincere with Lionel and, despite the fact he can't completely trust him, and he will continue to spy and protect his back, his words and actions to Lionel were sincere.

Dominic. Well, it would have been better *had* he done it, but thank god he didn't. Now I can do the thing I want to do but shouldn't with him. ;)

I loved that he was so blatantly checking Clark out when he came into save the farm. Not that Clark didn't warrant it; that blue shirt was painted on, right? And then he proposed and was accepted into the family. Finally.

Lionel and Edge. I can only imagine that the only other person Lionel had ever been as comfortable with as he was with Edge was Lillian. They had such an old lover quality around them; the passion was still there, but it was tempered by familiarity.

KK. She did a pretty good acting job last night. I liked her scenes well enough, and she didn't fall flat. I'd give her props, but she doesn't deserve them for being so inconsistent.

The Bad

The Helen arc. And I don't buy that either of them loved the other. I just don't see it. I saw it in Dichotic, and then it disappeared. I will never like that plotline, and will never be satisfied with it.

The points I said above about the lack of Clark/family talk.

Overall, it was a good episode. I enjoyed it, and can't wait until next week to see if they keep it up (or maybe get better?)

You know, you bring up something that I didn't realize was bothering me. The first two episodes were SO plot heavy, it was like the characters didn't have a chance to REACT, to have EMOTIONS. It WOULD have been nice to see Clark have more time with his parents. I mean, the Lex part, we fanfic writers can easily take care of... and they'd never show that on the WB anyway! So thanks for voicing that. Snaps to you, girl. Plus, yeah, KK was oddly...good. How weird! Ha ha.

Yes, this was exactly it. There was so much for them to DO, they didn't have time to give the important, emotional parts their full attention where his parents were concerned. I felt we got it with Lana and Chloe, and I will even say we probably did with Lex, just the greedy little fangirl in me wanted more, but Clark's relationship with his parents is so important and it was glossed over too much. Maybe they should have stretched it out to three episodes.

Of course, Dichotic is when they started screwing around with Lex's motivation and behavior. I mean, WWUW lex attacking that meter reader's car? A group of us at fanforum.com agreed that was only in-character if Lex had just gotten off the phone with Lionel, who was giving him a hard time about donating the golf clubs. Or something like that.

And I'd love to help you with that icon. Drop me a line at pepperjackcandy @ yahoo . com, and we can discuss what you're looking for. 8-)

Even that would be stretching it. Yes, Lex has a temper, and yes, he can be destructive, but the two other times he's been destructive, it's been justifiable and called for. He started tearing apart his office in "Temptest", but it wasn't just randome; he was throwing things aside to look for the key. He tore his office apart in "Insurgence", but again, he *had* to. He was looking for the bugs and then destroying them, so it wasn't just random and it wasn't just out of anger. But in Dichot? No reason, no rhyme, and no explination.

I'll e-mail you about the icon, thanks!

Great review! I agree on most points. Although I didn't think the runion was rushed.
Loosing the ring was imo.

I hope Lex is playing Lionel. But my first instinkt told me no.

I will do some icons of the hug scene. want?

I have a strong feeling that it's the greedy fangirl in me that felt the reunion was rushed, and not any fault of the show's. ;) I do agree on the ring, though. All week during the preview, my sister and I were saying Clark was going to punch the wall and break the ring, but I think we both expected it to come later in the episode. Instead, it was first thing. They should have just done it in the last episode and started with a sober Clark.

I'd love a hug icon. Thanks!!

I'm here!

I was about ready to write this show off, since it had gotten to the point where I was only watching it so I could read the fic, but Phoenix has restored my faith. The Clana is dead, long live the Clex!

Oh, and I finally got my LJ set up. :) Thanks for the code! Friending you now...
