Accelerate
May. 7th, 2003 08:31 amFor some strange reason, every time I see or think of this title (and it seems to have been floating around forever), I hear Ani DiFranco's 'Dialate' in my head. The few words that I actually know run continuously through my head, and die when I try to sing / I see you when you (I?) Accelerate/ because I realize it doesn't work.
Onto the episode.
The Good:
Lex. Very pretty. And Sexy. And he got a new coat.
Lionel. Brilliant, as always, although in dire need of a hair cut. He seemed so sincere in this episode. So very interested in his son's well-being. For awhile there, I couldn't even tell he was lying his ass off. I was very impressed.
And the last scene with him, Emily, and Bunny-buns? Freaky as all hell, and I loved it. Of course, as
hederahelix said, "I didn't need to see Lionel as a pedophile," but, honestly, in the end, I didn't get that vibe. She's not a little girl; she's a tool he will use and exploit to get to greater power.
What are his ambitions, anyway? Does he, like Lex, want to rule the world? Because that never really occured to me. He just seems to like power and chaos, whereas Lex strikes me as a man who wants to control it. Like, Lionel pushes the dominoes over just so see where they fall, and Lex spends hours setting them up in intricate patterns, then waits until he wants to push. I don't know. Ignore me.
I loved Clark being able to see faster than anythign without moving. The scene in the cemetary with the frozen rain drops was great. I'd wondered if he could do that since I read Hauntings, and now I have my answer.
I liked the creepiness in the beginning. I scare easily, and this got me a little.
Emily was fantastic. Not ten years old, but wonderful.
Lana: "Do you believe in ghosts?"
Clark (scornfully): "No. But I belive in aliens. No, wait!!! Other way around, other way around!"
Chloe looked fantasitic. Beautiful.
The Bad
Christ, how many people does Lana know who have died? And how soon before I stop feeling sorry for her and just roll my eyes at her misfortune. Oh ...
Seriously, her life plays out like bad fanfic written by 13 year old girls. I should know; I think I wrote this story when I was ten.
Note to the PTB: I don't care how many friends you have (or don't have, in Chloe's case). If you're fighting with someone and have called your friendship quits, you don't go to the movies with them. In fact, you probably don't go to the movies. Are they punishing Chloe for being to interesting?
Lana. Do I have to say more?
Oh, wait, I do.
She can't swim? But she could when she was ten? I guess this proves that Lana would forget to breathe without a pep squad.
Lana is not more sympathetic because she cries at 3 in the morning. Oh, and by the way, that was mine, but you're welcome to it, but only if you make it actually work. You can't? Give it back and get the girl some mental health. Honestly, I don't think Nell was a good gardian at all; Lana should have been in therapy from day one and instead of always saying, "My parents used to ..." she'd say, "My therapis told me ..."
Lana. Hire other people to work for you. That way you won't always be stuck cleaning alone at night.
Do I have to mention the kiss of life? Those bastards!
Speculation:
I have a feeling that Clark and Lana won't last. Something will clue Clark into the fact he's an alien and is a danger to people or something. Either a) Lana finds something out and will freak, thus marring her perfect finish or b) Clark will nobly leave her for her own protection. Or something.
The episode was okay. Not my favorite, but it wasn't Dichot. It wasn't even Skinwalker or Fever.

Date: 2003-05-07 02:17 pm (UTC)The point is, I don't know how I'm functioning right now. I really can't think coherently at all. But I will say this: Lana is a puppet. She can sing, she can dance, the PTB want her in their pants. So she will do whatever they say.
*sigh* Back to typing in numbers. :)

Must be nice to be part of a show that aspires so well to mediocrity. *yawns*
Masochistically pushing my expectations on up there for the 2-part finale! *g*
Re:
Date: 2003-05-07 02:18 pm (UTC)Is that two parts as in two hours in one night, or a cliffhanger? The only thing I know about the finale is that everyone seems upset and it's probably coming soon.
