So I, like many young, impressionable teens, was deeply influenced by Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire". While way too chicken to watch the movie (remember, I was the girl who was frightened of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie), I devoured the novel over and over, carrying it around in my letterman's jacket because it had an inside pocket that allowed me to keep it near my heart. It sparked my imagination, my love of vampires, and characters that have stayed with me to this day and now live and breathe in my still unpublished novel.

I had really, really hoped the TV show was going to be a faithful adaptation of the novel, and I'm kind of mad at myself for ever thinking that. I mean, even as I was trying to articulate to my sister my deep desire to see Louis's brother in his religious mania, I immediately came up against the first major problem: who the fuck wants to watch a show where the sympathetic protagonist is a plantation owner? So, yeah, I get the changes. And I think, overall, the show looks amazing and I can't wait to see it.

And yet... the little teenage girl in me still longs for something a little truer. Somehow. But, whatever. It's not to be. Bring on October 2.
