I imagine this is a bit how John Adams felt when he finally got everyone to agree to independence... but only if they continued to allow slavery in the US. I'm bitterly disappointed, although not really surprised.
And I just can't help but feel that something as important as changing the constitution, even a state one, needs to have more than just a slight majority. A slight majority does not represent the true feelings of the state. It needs to be overwhelming. Now, I haven't seen the final results, but...
