Half-thought thoughts

MR rocked Zod like a rocking thing. Sadly he was, once again, let down by the writers and creators and all that jazz. You bring a figure like Zod on? You really need to expand the storyline more than just thirty-six minutes or so. It's at the very least a two episode thing, if not half a season. But the SV writers are notoriously lazy and don't believe in taking time to explore anything that's not incredibly stupid (see Season 4 and the rocks of stupidity). So, where Zod coulda been a cool antagonist that further helps bring/shape/mould Clark into Superman, he's barely a blip on the boy wonder's radar.
Bad. Bad writers.
Ahem. Anyway.
I was all set to hate Lana in this. She cracked me up in her opening scene when it's like she *suddenly* realized that there was a freaking *riot* going on all around her while she was making nice with her maybe-maybe not. And I know I'm a bit bitter from past years and things yet to come (although that comment I made about the TPB not taking time to explore? I could write pages and pages on how they've shafted Lana as a character), but whatever. The point is, I really hated everything about her part in the plot up until Zod pinned her through the hand to the wall. And it wasn't just the pain (I got more of a viceral thrill seeing her get killed last season; this was more on a authorial level of me going, "see? If Lana doesn't pass out, Kali won't either"). But she really sold me when she went to Martha and said she had to be the one to kill Zod. Because, really, she was right and there was no way anyone else was going to get near him. And I liked the resolve and the strength proving, once again, there really is a girl in there that I like (if only the writers didn't make her suck so much). And she played her part with Zod very well.
The believablity was broken for me, though, when they cut to Zod and Lana kissing on the couch. Because, well, Zod wanted an heir. And he's kind of disgusted by human beings. I really don't buy that he'd do anything more than bend her over the back of the couch or a chair or something and fuck her. And I didn't find it hot because, while Lana was certainly trying, Zod seemed a bit put off.
This episode made both my Chloe/Lionel shipper heart squee and break and my Clark/Chloe heart squee and break.
I don't know about Jimmy yet. My only opinion is that it's a rather strange move to cast the twin of someone who played a FOTW (one of the better ones, IMO) on the show.
Mixed feelings on Lionel. I rather like his interactions with everyone on the show. However, I miss the Magnificent Bastard.
I'm mildly curious as to where they are going to go with Lex. He's so contrite at the damage his possessed body caused. Last season he made the choice to be ruthless to protect his heart (while getting what he desired); I know it was only a minute or so, but it's hard to see Lex not coming out of this experience cautious.
Anyway. SV is still a clusterfuck and while I love my boys (and my universe), I'm not sure about the show. At least, so far, though, it's not ripping me to shreds the way Buffy and Angel did.
And I have Prison Break to make me happy.
I'll write about SPN later.
