Elizabethan Bunnies

Bunny 1:

Clex Shakespear in Love-type senario, where Lex is the brilliant playwrite and Clark is the actor who inspires him to greater brilliance.

Bunny 2:

Same time period, only this time they're both actors. Lex is always the skirt role, beacuse even though he's gone through puberty, he's still slim and pretty enough to pull it off. Clark is the new actor in the troupe and sparks fly immediatly. Of course, Lex is wary because he's been used before, but Clark convinces him.

Any takers?

I'm positive it's a scam, but I'm just curious if they're scamming all f-fic writers or I got lucky.

Dear Serafina,

My name is Mercedes and I work for Xlibris, a print-on-demand self-publishing company. If you don't mind, I wanted to take a moment to let you know how we can help you become a publishing success. If you are not interested, please let me know by clicking on the link at the bottom of this message.

Xlibris is partially owned by Random House Ventures, LLC, a subsidiary of Random House, the world's largest trade book publisher. Every day, we help authors just like you by offering flexible, inexpensive methods of editing, marketing, distributing, and selling books. To date, we have published over 10,000 titles, paid our authors more than $1,000,000 in royalties, and paved the way for many of them to win contracts with traditional publishers such as St. Martin’s Press, Kensington, and Bantam Books.

Writers choose Xlibris because we are known for excellence. Here is what recently-published author Michael Aronovitz had to say about us:

“The fact that I could self-publish in such a convenient amount of time with such a spectacular end product from cover to inner layout still remains unbelievable. And for such a reasonable price! In a world of publishing that seems so impossible to break into, Xlibris has given me the power to present my fiction to as many people as I am able in the most professional package available…You helped me realize a lifelong dream and, already, people are talking about my fiction with respect…Finally, someone in the world of business and creativity got it right. Thank you Xlibris!"

Xlibris has a complete line of both trade and full-color publishing services. We can work with anything from 700-page novels to 24-page color children’s books. Plus, we are so confident you’ll be thrilled with our services that we back them up with a 100% money-back guarantee.

We’d love to talk with you about any of your publishing projects and how Xlibris might be able to help. Please click here to register for more information.

If you’d prefer, you can call us toll free at (888) 795-4274 x278 and ask to speak with a Publishing Consultant. Each month, we run special offers for new submissions. So contact us today!

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Mercedes Bournias
Publishing Consultant

I am in love with both your bunnies, but I don't know enough about the period from an acting pov to tackle them. I'd pay someone to write them, though, especially the second one *G*.

I'd pay for someone to write them, too. But no one seems interested. *sigh*

How funny that you got that letter. I was at work today and we were trying to look up a book printed by ex-libris. And we couldn't friggin' look it up by the ISBN alone, which is fucking insane! And we couldn't even locate the book even though we had the TITLE. Because we couldn't match the fucking category!

You can probably tell we were all pissed as hell and vowed never to self-publish w/ exlibris.

That's my 2 cents.

I think you should write the Shakespeare clex. I've wanted that story for a long time, but don't think I have the balls to write it. You have the balls. Go, S, go!

Yeah, I wouldn't self-publish either. I think I have more chances getting read if I just published online than self-publishing. Plus, it's cheaper.

I don't want to write the Shakespear Clex. I want someone *else* to write it. I"m lazy. :P

Shakespeare Clex would so rock!

And I just want to know how you got on that mailing list for the book publishing.

*hugs*

I have this feeling people are going to make me write the Shakespeare Clex, aren't they?

I want to know, too. I"m just curious because it's actually addressed to "me" (my pen name at any rate) and not just a random person. It doesn't have the same feel as most spam does, you know? So I was just curious is more fic writers had gotten it.

Love your icon!

I agree the Shakespeare Clex would rock! Guess you are elected. All those in favor? ;)

BTW - as to your letter, here is an interesting tidbit I found while hunting the internet. Gives a good breakdown of 'the deal' from an author who published with them.

I'm sure you'll have a better time finding her columns than finding the Xlibris book! From what I can see, the tradeoff is that they print the book, but you do all the work. Thus, you'd be selling it yourself (except internet), copy-editing, etc. Plus it doesn't say anything about content. I wonder if someone like fanfiction.net (though I don't know if you post there) isn't selling lists of their authors or something to subsidize their site. You never know.
