And speaking of Moses
Aug. 31st, 2004 08:19 amVal Kilmer is playing him in a new musical (I think it's a musical) called The Ten Commandments. Is he trying to tell us something?
I want to see it, of course.
There was something else I was going to say.... Oh well. Gone now.

I heard a radio commercial for this. Hi Val, meet toilet. Hear that flushing sound? Is that the sound of your career?
Though, I guess on the other hand, he *did* do voice work in The Prince of Egypt, so perhaps he's just got a vested interest in all things Moses?
Oh, and I'm totally tempted to go see it. Hee. I mean, check out this out. It's a pretty glitzy looking website.

Date: 2004-08-31 05:03 pm (UTC)Why? Seriously. He's a good actor with a decent voice who's gotten involved with something that, historically, has actually been very well recieved. As far as I know, both Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat and Jesus Christ Superstar didn't exactly kill anyone's career. And, if it doesn't work, it's not going to kill his.

"And, if it doesn't work, it's not going to kill his."
I agree in that I don't think appearing in this will necessarily kill his career, but he's definitely at a crossroads, if you will. Honestly? I think the fact that he's now doing musical theatre isn't exactly a good sign. I know, I know, there's a whole list of actors who have done theatre (and quite successfully, ie Hugh Jackman) but personally? I'm reminded of Melanie Griffiths doing Chicago last year, more than I am Hugh Jackman winning a Tony for The Boy From Oz or Antonio Banderas in Nine. YMMV. But at any rate, I sincerely did not mean to get into a debate over the state of Val Kilmer's career.:-)

Date: 2004-08-31 09:17 am (UTC)He sang really well in 'The Doors'.
But, as of this last decade his career has been a'flushin'.
IMO he has a ego issue that gets in the way of his interacting well with others - that's why he retreated to Santa Fe, where he's one of their resident 'stars'.
But, other than that, no, I don't normally care about the 10 commandments. Even if they're sung.

Date: 2004-08-31 07:15 pm (UTC)I actually was hard in love with VK for several years...I own and have watched many times every thing he's ever done...including an "After-School Special" with Michelle Pfeiffer against the evils of drinking and driving, from the late 70's...including 'The Man Who Broke 1,000 Chains'.
I practically worship his Doc Holiday from Tombstone...I will never see a better characterization of an entirely different entity.
But, after idolizing him and reading every article about him (and I mean every) I began to composite (if you will allow me to use that as a verb) a man who was not helped in life by his personality traits.
My impression is that he's incredibly aware of is genius, but that he hasn't been able to buffer that with a layer of "It's no biggie".
