Is it true that most women are anemic, or is that just stupid? Because some man said that a few weeks ago and I thought it sounded dumb. But I didn't say anything because i didn't know him.

During our periods, we tend to be slighty anemic but for the most part, no.

The risks for anemia might be higher in women than men, because it can be tied in with our periods and pregnancy. I don't know about the number of women who are possibly anemic in the country though.

But that said, I might need to go to the doctor now. *sigh* I went to do reading on it to see if I could find a quick answer, and dang if I'm not showing the symptoms.

What they said above is mostly, right. So the answer is no. It's symptoms are usually only more prevelant in woman during certain periods of their lives (the week a month -sometimes and only to some women-, and then during pregnancy), but touside of that it's pretty much even.

I've known a few friends of both sexes who had it.

Word confusion?

I wasn't there, but perhaps the guy was making a cynical societal comment that most women seem to be anorexic these days. I don't know the guy, I don't personally believe that, but it's another perspective that perhaps the guy had no clue what he was talking about. Either that or I don't. One or the other ;-)

No, he mean anemic. He was talking bout the atkins diet and how it was probably good for women since most women are anemic

Of course, I'm normally showing symptoms for about every illness out there when I look something up, so I woudln't panic. :)

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info. I thought it was a bit of a stretch for most women to be anemic their entire lives, but I didn't say anything because even when I know what i"m talking about, I generally sound wrong.

Well...

I know that personally, I ended up anemic due to, er, "women's issues" but it's more related to having polycystic ovarian disorder. However, I find it interesting that I exhibited the symptoms of anemia for so long and was told by family and doctors that it was normal. So that makes me think there might be a seed of truth in the statement, but saying most women are anemic seems a little strong.

(That said, slow iron is a beautiful thing in general.)

Personally, I'm questioning this guy's intelligence just based on the statement that the Atkins Diet could be good for *anyone*. ;)

Cutting out an entire food group... sheesh... (rolls eyes)
