When do you think Lionel found out about his illness? After the tornado, after getting shot, or nearer to the end of S2?

And ....

I can't remember my other question. So, uh ... did you know Ian Sommerhalder is pretty? And I love Michael Rosenbaum?

Someone on my friends list (I can't remember who) pointed out that Lionel said he'd been diagnosed about 2 years ago and that put it around Ryan. She pointed out that it explained why Lionel wanted Lex to return to Metropolis to start taking over Luthor Corp. and it went a long way to explaining Lionel's increasingly desperate attempts to get to Lex. It made sense to me. So I would go with late season one before the tornado.

I can see where the logic is, except I really think Lex would have been told while Lionel was in the hospital for the tornado. Even if it was just a slip, like, "I suggest surgery, although it's risky with his liver disease" or something. Plus, two years could also point to he found out as he was convalescing from the tornado.

But I like that thought. I'd really like to see a fic from Lionel's POV with it set around that time.

Although the comment above could be accurate, if Lionel was diagnosed with liver cancer prior to the tornado, Lex would've learned it in the tornado's aftermath, while Lionel was in the hosptial. Those sort of records would've been made available to the physicians doing the surgery, even in SV, through medical history checks. Plus, drugs that Lionel would've been on would've come up in blood tests.

Of course, I have no other answer for you. It would have to be the beginning of s3 at the latest for Dr. Whatshertits to have developed a serum bringing Adam back to life.

I think I missed the episode wth the big Adam reveal. Was it "Velocity"? Because I'm wondering if there's any record (show or "side-canon" like the Ledger) that gives an approximate date for Adam's death.

I've been thinking that Lionel found out during the summer after the tornado, before going to live with Lex. However, "Suspect" throws a monkey wrench in that becuase he gets thrown in the hospital again, and, once again,why wouldn't Lex be informed? (Unless a. there's something in the medical records saying Lex can't know or b. Dominic covers up the information).

Adam's first death might be listed in the newspaper that Chloe or Lex looks up/Lana gets during one of those episodes (I have no idea which one). We do know that Adam was the first long-term success, so it has to be a while.

I can't remember if Lionel was on life-support during Suspect or not. The only time Lex would learn about his father's medical details would be if Lionel was unable to speak for himself.

In 'Covenant,' Big Daddy says something along the lines of "About two years ago, I was daignosed ..." So, I'm thinking it's sometime around 'Tempest/Vortex', especially when you take into account that they probably ran all sorts of tests on him while he was in the hospital in 'Vortex'. In fact, I've now come to believe that the main reason Lionel wasn't more hands-on during all the Lex/Desiree business in 'Heat' - the way he was all in Lex and Helen's Kool-Aid at the end of S2 - is because he was in Metropolis getting second and third opinions about the diagnosis.

So, yeah, I'd say Lionel found out sometime around the events of the tornadoes and their aftermath.

I'm leaning towards that as well. I'm just wondering why either Lex wasn't told after Lionel got shot. It seems like someone they would have mentioned, especially since Lionel's condition was so critical and being terminally ill might have decreased the chances of him waking up again.
