Gah!!! He did it again!
May. 8th, 2004 03:21 pmI don't see how you can watch a show like Smallville week after week, see how different it is from the comics, see the characters growing and evolving and *starting* from a different place than the comics, and then say this:
But the crowning achievement was the final scene with Clark and Lex. It should always be remembered that even the greatest villains in the world don’t go around thinking, “I’m evil.” There’s always rationalization, always some internal logic as to why their actions are warranted. Here, in a brilliant exchange with his future foe, Lex lays out the beginnings of what we know will be his eventual rationale as to why Superman must be combated and/or destroyed. And the most frightening thing is…it makes SO MUCH SENSE. I found myself nodding and saying, “Yeah…okay…that actually sounds kind of reasonable.” And this is LEX LUTHOR we’re talking about.
Lex almost always makes sense!! Please, someone name me an episode in which Lex Luthor doesn't make sense, including "Shattered" and "Asylum". THE COMICS DON'T COUNT! That's not Lex as we know him on Smallville, and I don't understand why people can't take the characterization and the characters as given on the show and compare them to, I don't know, the characters on the show instead of some comic reality that only related tangentially to the show.
And, yes, I know I'm a masochist since I keep going back. But we knew that already, didn't we? :)

Date: 2004-05-08 04:53 pm (UTC)the most inane thing lex ever said was something about lana the crouching tigress finding her hidden dragon. but i blame that on the writer!
*g*
but yeah, lex in smallville is different from comics!lex. generally, comics are more concerned with the kapow!. also continuity is nonexistent. so totally different realities.
