Do I even want to try?
May. 5th, 2004 10:26 amYou know, even though I have mixed feelings about the TWOP recaps, I generally enjoy Omar's because he seems to like the show. And, while I realize he didn't recap last week's, it still bothers me that this week's recapper said that Omar told her (him?) that the writing isn't very good this season. That's such bullshit. The writing, overall, is *good* this season. I think we've had more fantastic scripts this season than in S1, and those that weren't really good were good and those that weren't good were watchable. Even "Slumber" wasn't the fiasco that "Dichotic" was, and it was more enjoyable than "Skinwalker" because, even though it was cheesy, the guest actress could act.
I get the need to snark to make the writers do their jobs, but that's what nitpicking is for. The episodes have been good excpet for nitpickty stuff, and I hate that an entire good season is being written off as "not very good."
*sigh*
And she didn't look like she was going to be very funny, either.

Date: 2004-05-05 11:24 am (UTC)First, I'm not taking the Omar said comment very seriously. He's usually pretty clear on his feelings about how the show is progressing (see hospital scenes and the Clana). I'm taking it as a reference to a discussion of a specific plot point or episode until he says differently. If he did think the writing was bad this season, I'd be surprised since I've enjoyed a lot more than last season.
Second, I found the tone of her recap, including the introduction, strange. My impression was that the recap was pretty perfunctory. I found it disconcerting that she saw the lingering emotional shots at the end of various key scenes as bad editing (When Lex was looking at Clark after smashing the tank, the final scene of Clark and Martha hugging, etc.). She didn't really even acknowledge them as a failed attempts to be doing anything. She just talked about them like there was nothing going on at all. The whole recap really struck me as very detached. I like my snark specific, I guess.
I'm trying to be generous and thinking that she is busy recapping a couple other shows as well and maybe didn't have very much time to devote to do another recap. But that doesn't make like the recap any better. It did make me wonder when Omar would be back, though. Even when I disagree with him, he makes me laugh.

Date: 2004-05-05 04:23 pm (UTC)Well, she did say she hadn't watched the show for a season or two, which is probably the problem. Omar, at least, seems to ahve some attachment to the show, and his recaps reflect that. Hers didn't (even though I didn't read it). I would rather no one write a recap for SV than someone who doesn't watch and get soem enjoyment of the show.
Taht's why I dont' read recaps for any of the other shows. They all seem to *hate* everything, and it's just not fun.
I think Omar will be back after next (this) week. He said somethign about being gone for 2 weeks, so I've got my figners crossed.
