I haven't read this book, and I'll probably just browse it in the bookstore rather than buy it because I can tell already I'll have problems with it. I have no problem defining a group of people who are more comfortable being alone than in a relationship, or who want to define relationships differently than the "norm". For all I know, having some sort of unconventional, quirky relationship where I'm with someone, but not in the way that most people define together is what I need. I have no idea. I do know the idea of having to spend most of my time with someone else rather than by myself disturbs me, but, at the same time, I would like to be romantically involved with someone somehow.

My problem with the book so far is, in the description on barnesandnoble.com, they say that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are "enemies to quirkyalones everywhere." And that's where I start to have problems. Personally, I don't watch Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail and think that if I don't find someone and get married, there's something wrong with me. And I don't see their characters thinking that either. (Now, I don't like either of those movies but I do, generally, enjoy romantic comedies). My problem is that, if you're going to say that some people don't fit the 'traditional' view of life and relationships and that's okay, then you have to say that people who do (i.e. people who want to get married and have children and devote their lives to this one all-encompassing relationship that they think will make their lives more fulfilling), THEN THAT HAS TO BE OKAY TOO. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks aren't my enemies (well, since I want to marry Tom Hank's wife, he sort of is, but that's a different issue); they're someone with a different view on life. A different way to life life. Just like straight people aren't my enemies; they're just werid. :)

Why do we always have to view people with different views on life have to be enemies? Can't we all just get along? Or at least coexiste peacefully?
