Writing meme days 2 & 3
Jul. 5th, 2010 02:28 pm2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
I have too many characters that I've created to really know the number. Let's just go with many. As for gender... I prefer writing males in fanfiction and females in original fiction, I guess. My writing boom started after I discovered slash, and although I've dabbled in femslash, my main focus in fanfiction is often males. Even still, I always try to incorporate women in their own story lines (because I like subplots).
Recently, I've been writing more OFCs fic in different fandoms. I don't know why, except I love creating strong, realistic female characters.
For original fiction, I write stories about girls/women. There's enough books out there that focus on men, and I want more books about me. Well, not me, but you know what I mean (I hope).
3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you’re writing about fictional places)?
Names are a pain in the butt. I troll baby name books or steal names that I like from other people. Last names often come from books lying around. Some characters arrive with names and I don't know where they came from, but others I have to work at by finding stuff that fits.
I still feel ill.
