Exhausted

No sweating last night!!! Yay!! Yes, I'm still calling a doctor (as soon as I can find a new one) but it was nice not to be up all night sweating.

I'm exhausted now, though. I just want to sleep.

Someone over on FF.net (aka Pit of Voles) doesn't like the way I handled "the period issue" in my Pitch Black fic. Hmmm... a girl who gets a painful period (which was me over the weekend) and a man who treats is very matter-of-fact, doesn't embarrass her but makes it clear that in Real Life, a period woudln't stop someone trying to kill you.

Oh, yeah. I handled it *all wrong*.

I keep having to remind myself I'm probably dealing mostly with teenagers over there. She probably didn't like that I had Jack *get* her period in the fist place. It's icky, you know. But, since I can't figure out how to respond to reviews,I'll guess I'll never know.

I'm reading the "famous" Pitch Black fic that's got the same title as mine (Apprentice; I was advised at the pit of voles that I should really change the title of my fic becauase of this one). It's well written, long (!), has good characters in it and it moves at a good pace. But...

Jack's such a girl! I mean, not hugely or anything; it's subtle, but, she's squimish about Riddick killing and just bought perfume and just... not the same. But at least she's not not Jack. I mean, she's still fierecly intelligent, strong-willed, strong-spirited, and just... a strong woman. But one of the things I liked in CoR is that she was just as much a killer as Riddick. Not that I'm associating killing with being strong, but there was just something appealing about a female version of Riddick who managed to not be his clone.

There's another one that really bothers me. I mean, I *like* the fic a lot, but Jack is a total girl in this one. New Mecca was a fundamentalist planet, kind of Taliban-ish, and all the men are fighting to marry her when she comes into her majority. Riddick rescues her, and then ...

They flirt. A lot. And Jack is pretty and snappy and sexually aware and playful but she's not a killer.

Am I wrong for liking that part about her?

I'm so sick. I put Pitch Black into my laptop this morning during breakfast so I could watch it. I forgot to take it out, so after school, when I was writing questions for our science review (we're doing Jeopardy), I turned it on. Then, I tried to make screen captures so I could *laughs* make myself icons. Never mind that I'm working with fucking paint and have no visualization skills whatsoever. But, at least I tried. Maybe one of these days, I'll get ... Paint Shop? Is that what it's called? And I'll play some more.

COTW 48's been sent off to beta. Well, I forgot to send it to one, and I'll do that tonight. Expect the fic next week or so. Until then Check out a New Fandom. If you loved me, you'd all read it.

Okay, back to trying to find a new doctor. I almost cried on the phone a mintue ago. I lost my insurance card and I coudn't figure out how to get to the website, and the Blue Cross phone was one of those machines who talk to you. It kept asking my policy number, apologizing when it didn't "get that" until finally I snapped, "I don't have my stupid card!" So, the machine transfered me then probably went off with her machine friends to gossip about the psycho who called.

Or, you know. Just kept being a machine.

One of my student's gave me shower stuff (gel, lotion, bath confetti and body spray) for christmas. It's wild orchid and it smells *wonderful*. I could wrap myself in the smell.

I'd put it on my sheets, but right now I want to make sure I can get through a few more nights without having to change my sheets in the middle of them.

It's very strange to be writing het. I mean, right now, Jack's 12 (although apparently I've hinted that she's 11; I don't know where and as I can't work ff.net, I can't figure out how to ask), but it's still leading up to boy/girl stuff.
