The Writers Make My Brain Hurt
How did Lex know that the blood would interest him? Does he just randomly take samples from Helen's fridge? I don't understand why he took it or how he knew. The only explanation I can come up with is that something in her behavior when she was looking at the blood in Fever red flagged him that something was off, so he waited a few months before breaking in and taking it.
Fuck the writers. How can I feel bad about Martha loosing the baby when I knew she was never going to have it. It's only sad when it's not predictable. Otherwise, it's bad storytelling.
Now let's talk about Chloe's turn to evil. I do not buy that her poking into Clark's life in the past indicates that she was destined to become a bad person. Her motives back then were benign. They weren't *right*, but she truly didn't realize that her actions might not be perceived as good or helpful or be welcomes. She *knows* that working for Lionel would be wrong; that's why she turned it down. I hope she thinks she's going to play Lionel. That because she doesn't feel she needs to be loyal to Clark, she can use him to further her own interests but, at the same time, not give anything useful to Lionel (which is why she asked him what he was after with Clark; if she knew, she could avoid giving him too much of what he wanted).
I hate that they did this over Clark and Lana's relationship. And I hate that they made Lana such a bad liar and for Chloe not to get angry at Lana.
Lana, repeat after me: "Clark and I are going to the wedding together, yes. Oh, and by the way, Clark's looking for you. He has something important to tell you." Why couldn't she had said that? Chloe still could have gotten angry at Clark, but at least it would have looked as if they *tried* so she might feel guilty as some point.
Oh, and Chloe? Believe it or not, Clark and Lana's relationship isn't all about you. I know it's hard for you to understand that, but get over yourself and move on.
Helen: If she tried to kill Lex because he stole the blood from her, I hate the writers. They have no respect for women; I can't believe an intelligent and fairly mature woman that Helen seems to be would KILL over something like that.
If she's a clone: cool.
If Lionel had both her and Lex drugged and then Helen kidnapped: cool.
If she's been working with Lionel the entire time: yawn. I liked Victoria better, then. (Even though she wasn't working with Lionel, per se, but still, she was a betrayer)
Things I'm Neutral On or Wish Had Been Better
RedK as a drug. I like it, but I wish it had been ... explored more somehow. Like have Clark make the occasional comment about how this sucks and he wishes he could "just feel good again." Reference somehow. Because my take on it was although he liked it while he was on it, there was no real desire to feel that way when it was gone.
Chloe evil. I know I ranted above, but she was hot evil. Which is why I think she might be playing Lionel. *crosses fingers*
Jonathan. I get he's upset, and I understand why he said what he said. But, once again, since I knew the baby was doomed, it makes him look like and ass.
Clark and Lana. Pretty couple. Finally have the boyfriend/girlfriend vibe. Reminded me a lot of my brother and his last girlfriend (except I liked her a lot better. Let's say my brother and Alice, who I really didn't like.)
Things I liked
Pete! Very cool.
Lionel! Wash your hair, but you're cool.
The scene with Clark and Lex where Lex tells Clark about Helen. Nicely done.
Lex confessing. As Thamaris said, it's the first time he's tried to take responsibility for his actions and confess. He still got shot down, but hey, my baby tried.
The whole Jor-El thing. That's what I want to see more of.
So, overall, I enjoyed the episode. I can't wait for next season. But ... I have *no* idea how I will write around this, especially if Helen is evil.

Date: 2003-05-21 08:58 am (UTC)This is what I am going with. When he walked in to the lab in 'Fever', she jumped and looked all guilty. Out of apparent curiosity, he walked over to the microscope, looked down and there is a folder with the flipped over paper on it. Clark wasn't in the hospital so she wouldn't have a folder on him. My suspicion is that she placed that information in Martha's file! Which Lex got ahold of at the end.
