"I'm not going to be coming over to spend the night anymore," Clark said. He licked his lips. "You can't expect me to sleep so near you while you're in here with your wife. Please don't ask that of me."

For a long moment, Lex didn't move. His chest rose and fell rapidly, and body was so tight and tense, Lex was giving Clark a stomach ache.

Suddenly, Lex pulled Clark's head back with the brush and looked down into his eyes. "I'll be in here," he said slowly. "With my wife. My... What..." Something passed over Lex's eyes, and the cleared and sharpened. "Clark," he breathed.

Clark looked up into Lex's eyes, his heart thundering suddenly. He sensed an opening for the first time since this whole thing began. Lex seemed almost normal. On top of that, he was confused and vulnerable. If Clark were ever going to try and force his way back into Lex's life, it would have to be now.

Eyes locked with Lex's, Clark ran his hands up Lex's back and tugged.

Lex fell into him willingly. His mouth was hot and hungry on Clark's, devouring. He pushed Clark back onto the bed, their legs tangling with each other. Lex's towel came loose as the kissed wildly, moaning and arching into each other.

Clark groaned as Lex brushed his erect cock over the hard mound hidden beneath his own finely tailored slacks. He was so hot, and his blood was racing through is body. It felt so good. So right. This was what Clark's body had been missing in the past weeks: Lex's body on his, mouth plundering his own, arousal and life and...

Heat. Heat and a horrible pressure built behind Clark's eyes.

"No," he moaned, licking at Lex's lower lip. His stomach tensed and vision went red behind his eyelids. With mounting horror, Clark knew that he wouldn’t be able to stop it. He was going to explode.

"Lex!" Clark gasped, pushing Lex away. He barely got Lex off in time before his eyes erupted.

*giggle* That story is just SO powerful and beautiful. I read the whole thing (chap 1 through 33) in two days just a couple weeks ago and couldn't put it down, not even to eat (don't worry, I ate in front of the computer *giggle*). I must say it's one of the best fic I've read in a long time and I found it just when I started reading Smallville slash. *grin* So now I'm totally hooked and can't wait for the next chapter. Hopefully, it'll come soon. :-D

Wow,thanks. I'm glad you ate, though; I would hate to think that my story is the cause of starvation. It's already driven one person insane. (Long story,really.) ;)

Hopefully, the next one will be relatively soon. It's coming out in fits and starts, so it will be done eventually.

Heh. Must say I did not read the last one because I had heard how it ended and was waiting for this one to make sure they were still OK after it. Must say I liked how Clark reacted after Desiree came up to his loft to seduce him. I like that he's still affected by what Lionel did to him, unlike some fics where people get over (near) rape instantly. Poor boy needs rape survivor therapy.

He really does. Sometimes I'm afriad that I'm dragging it out somehow, but it just feels natural to me. It's not on his mind daily like it was right after it happened, but when he gets unwanted attention, it all comes back.

I hope you read 34 now that you know things will (eventually) be okay between them. And I'm glad you liked this one. Thanks for you comments!

Hardly. I know someone who was raped over 20 years ago and it still affects her sometimes, especially when faced with a situation that resembles it.

Yup. I just had to make sure they weren't gonna be all hating each other or something first. My denial's been running deep lately. ;)

Naw, not hating each other. They didn't break up in anger (as you now know). There might be some weirdness between them in the upcoming fics, but mostly becaus they're trying to figure out what they are and how they're supposed to act. But I'm pretty much a "Rift? Fight? Huh? What are you talking about?" so I coudln't do that in COTW.

That's what I figured, but I still get nervous trying to strike the balance. But the first thing I thought when I saw the episode was, "Man, Clark's gonna *freak*." And i think it worked out well in terms of the fic, too.

*grovels* Oh gods! That was beautiful - as always! COTW was the first fic I ever read in this fandom, and it's still my fave. In fact, it continually becomes better and better. And Part 35 is no exception!

Lex singing 'Build Me Up, Buttercup' - I think that is going to stay with me forever! I just love how you handled the 'Heat' episode from Clark's perspective and Lex's confusion bouncing back and forth.

I really like the idea of Lex singing in the shower. I needed something for him to sing, and i coudlnt' think of anything (since I didn't know the song he sang on Regis and Kelly), so I chose that one. I used to work in a kid's toy store and we had to play the CDs we sold. One of them was a bunch of kids singing old songs, and that was my favorite of them all; I listened to that and the Kids Broadway CD constnatly. I was lucky my co-workers didn't kill me. When I rememebered that, I had to get Lex to sing that.

I just finished reading, and you're still breaking my heart in the very best way. I loved every word of it.

Thank you so much for having Clark be honest with Lex about the pheromones. I thought it was so stupid having Clark ask, "You really loved her," when he *knew* that Lex didn't. AUGH!

You know what the letter at the end is begging for? A Clark/Oz AU story, where Clark learns that it really *is* just Lex and Seth Green. ;-)

Oh, and I swear by echinacea. You're supposed to take it close to the onset of a cold, but I don't think there's any hard-and-fast rule about it. The only rule with echinacea is that you shouldn't take it for more than a couple of weeks at a time. After that it begins to lose its effectiveness. So just take it at the onset of a cold and it should cut the duration of the illness in half. It does taste kind of icky, but you just take two pills a day, no need to suck on lozenges.

Yeah, I don't understand about the 'You really loved her" thing on the show. I really don't get why Clark doesn't talk about the mutant happenings with Lex; Lex isn't stupid and everything would be so much easier to explain if Clark were honest about that. And the 'You really loved her' was like rubbing salt into wounds or something.

I like the idea of a Clark/Oz au. I'll thinkin about it. :)

This was a wonderful new installment of COTW ~ and extra fun to start getting into season 2, because it colors how I watch the show anyway, so it's nice to see what you end up doing with canon.

I particularly liked how you dealt with Clark's relationship with Chloe. Much better than the stupid show did.

Also Lex going in and out of the haze was really nice.

It was just really great all around. I printed it out yesterday evening and sat outside on my balcony in the finally nice weather and read it ~ such a nice experience!

Yeah, I wasn't too happy with the way they handled her. I understand her anger and hurt, because i think a good portion of it is actually self-directed, but the whole character just changed. She is so much more interesting than Lana, and I wish the creators would see that and give her more to do.
