Critique Group part 3
Aug. 10th, 2020 04:41 pmLast night, the same lady who insulted me submitted two sex scenes for critiquing. She's a very "artistic" literary writer, so they were tame scenes that were well done. After we critiqued her, she went on a long ramble about how she would never write a sex scene to titillate and ew how disgusting and boring and so not literary and she finds sex scenes and war scenes so booooooring.
Meanwhile, I'm writing a paranormal fic with romance elements. She wasn't there for the sex scenes (which I did not submit for critique because I didn't think it was the audience for it) but...
GAH!!!!!
The problem is, I get some really good feedback and advice from a couple of the other people. I don't want to leave, but if certain people are going to look down their noses at what I write... do I really want to stay?

Date: 2020-08-11 07:25 am (UTC)I think that really depends on how uncomfortable it makes you feel. I think younger!me would probably have left; now!me would be right up there going 'I love sex scenes, they tell us so much about the characters and can be wonderful steps in character development, and I try to make them hot where that's appropriate because I want the characters and the reader to have fun and anyway, what's with the sex-negativity?'
So...idk. But my sympathies!

Thanks!
