Apparently when you leave a review on Goodreads saying that you abandoned a book because you didn't like it and here is why, and maybe one day you'll go back to it, but currently there are other books holding your attention, you are really trying to "shoot down someone's career".

Also, there needs to be a name for how whenever you talk about grammar, you make a grammar mistake.

Honestly, I almost feel sort of bad because I when I wrote the review, it was to justify to myself why I wasn't finishing the book right now (because I didn't finish it and gave my reasons which included being slammed with a bunch of other things that needed to be read RIGHT NOW). And normally, I wouldn't review a book I didn't finish, but I forgot Goodreads wasn't a personal blog and others would see it. And it wasn't that bad of a review. I think I said it was fairly typical for the genre, these were the reasons I wasn't enthralled, but I was entertained enough that I might get back to it when I had the time. I'd take the review down, but I've had two people being kind of rude replying to me and it's got my back up (including the "if you're a second grade teacher, you'd think you'd know this about grammar because it's important for kids to know"; because having grammar errors in a book up for sale and in a blog/review is totally the same thing).

Sorry to word slam you, but you're an author and I had to apologize to someone for leaving a review without finishing the word. And you're the only author I know. So: I'm sorry, and I will never, never, never, never do it again.

There's an article at Slate from this past weekend about this subject. I think it's wonderful when people give genuine critiques (as you no doubt remember from when I betaed your stuff *G*).

I'd heard that people were being nasty to people who left less than negative reviews, but I honestly didn't think anyone would care. It wasn't even all that negative; I was trying to justify to myself why I was abandoning the book midway because I had been sort of enjoying it, but not enough when other books I read came out. I just don't understand why anyone would care.

I loved your betas. They were so helpful!

I just saw an article the other day that might interest you:

Thanks for that link. I read on fandom wank that one woman who reviewed a ton of stuff suddenly started getting harassed when she did a negative review. I shouldn't be surprised.
