I'm aware that people find bonding fics creepy. Especially when kids get bonded, then grow up and fall in love. Some feel it takes away the element of free will.

So. COTW Kal/Lex (and later Clark and Lex): was it ever creepy?

Personally, I like bonded fics. Never ever saw COTW as creepy.

I adore bonding fics myself. The Sentinel was pretty much my 1st big fandom and bonding is a biggie there. I didn't find COTW creepy at all. It never felt like they were being forced into anything they didn't want. I really loved the way they slowly discovered the bond and the effects it had on them as adults. The length of the story gave it time to play out in interesting ways.

People think bonding fics are creepy? Really? Huh. I love bonding fics. And COTW was interesting in that it had a bond that didn't magically make everything perfect between Clark and Lex. So, to answer your question--no, the bond between Kal/Lex (or Clark and Lex) was never creepy. It was beautiful.

I never found COTW as creepy. You gave them time to figure everything out and come to terms with it all, not just throwing everything at them at once those are the fics I have issues with.

COTW is a very well done fic in general, it's one of the main epic series I point out to everyone to try.
