Oh, Old People
Jan. 6th, 2012 06:01 pmWent to see Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy 'cause it finally opened where I live. At one theater. I tend to get the movies earlier, and this time I got there about twenty minutes early. First, I go up to the theater and there are these two people freaking outside the door because, "It's playing right now and we don't want to see the end!" even though it doesn't start for another ten or so minutes and it was open for new viewers. The worker tried to explain it was the pre-show but (and I hate to say this, but) I think that because she had an accent, they jut didn't listen to what she was saying.
So, I blew past them, went inside...
And found almost every seat already taken by the over 45 crowd of Monterey (not that 45 is old, but I'm being generous and they were probably over 65).
I take a seat in the upper corner of the theater. Sit through the preshow (well, I read) and most of the trailers (had to run out to use the restroom). The movie starts. The first bit plays, then the opening credits and some guy walks in and sits next to me.
I get uncomfortable when strangers sit next to me in a movie because the heroine of my novel was abducted like that, but it probably was one of the only seats left.
And then, this total stranger leans over and says, "Did I miss anything?"
...
I almost didn't say anything, because I figured they'd show or reference or retell the beginning, but I gave him a quick summary and then went back to the movie. In the end, it was probably lucky he was there, though, because the people on the other side were talkers and I might have killed them without a buffer.
