WTF News *and* Why is this news

From the radio today:

"The eighteen year old was arrested and found to be in possession of marijuana and his under-age passenger."

It took me quite a bit to figure out how that sentence was supposed to be constructed.

Why is this news: Not just a scroll, not just one report, but at least 5 separate reports + on the street interviews about the early closure of Starbucks for trainings tonight. Why?

I caught the tail end of the 'Starbucks closing early' story on my side of the country too and I was confused and had no idea what was going on, since I missed that part. And they were asking people what they were going to do to get their caffeine fix. And I thought, "go somewhere else and get coffee?"
