I personally think that Michael's actions on the show tell more about him than Lincoln. I'm not saying that Micahel doesn't love his brother. I just think that under that love there's a lot of resentment and frustration, and that it will come out at time.
I don't think that Michael was planning on repaying his brother then say good-bye. I think he imagined that once he broke Lincoln out, Lincoln would be a completely different person than before and they could have the kind of relationship Michael may have always wanted. However, Lincoln is still Lincoln, and Michael is still Michael. The way they think is completely different in the way they handle things, and neither one is very good at seeing where the other is coming from. So, there is a lot of frustration, resentment on both parts, and anger.
Lincoln never would have been able to be set up had he not done some really stupid things in his past. His actions (criminal and not) directly led to him being set up. There's a reason it was Lincoln and not Michael, so, yes, Lincoln had culpability. He did go to that garage that night to kill someone, after all.
I wasn't knocking your interpretation of their relationship. You have your interpretation, I have mine. If you want to portray your interpretation, great; write your own fic. this one is mine, and I think I have plenty of support to write them they way I am without them being accused of portraying them out of character.
