This one makes me sad.
"Do you believe in heaven?" Clark whispered.
Lex swallowed. "I don't know. I want to."
Clark rolled onto his side. He reached out and traced Lex's cheek with his fingertips. "Do you think... Do you think Ryan was waiting for Dad?"
"He probably was there with his mom and my mom and Pam and Julian." Lex smiled wistfully. "And they were all singing 'American Pie.'"
"Does your Mom know 'American Pie'? It doesn't seem like her kind of song."
"My mother was a woman of varied tastes, I'll have you know." He sniffed and wiped his eyes. "Do you think your dad is going to like her?"
"Of course."
His lower lip trembled. "What is she going to think of me? Do you think he's going to tell her about me? Will she still..."
"Lex." Clark kissed him gently. "Your mom is always going to love you. And when Dad tells her everything you've been doing, she's going to be so proud. You're top of your class, you're going to be an awesome pharmacologist, and, soon, you'll be a fantastic husband. What's not to be proud of?"
"I'm so far from the man I was supposed to be. I'm a Luthor. I was a Luthor. And Dad..."
"Lionel's view of who you were supposed to be isn't necessarily what your mother wanted. I'm sure all she ever wanted for you was to be happy."
Lex sniffed again and wiped his nose on Clark's shirt. "My mother was miserable so much of my life."
"She's happy now." Clark kissed Lex's upper lip. "She's in heaven with her best friend and her baby and her... son-in-law and now she has my dad to keep her company. And Dad will be able to tell her all the stories about you and about us and about our plans. And you know when they meet, Dad's going to walk right up to her and say, 'Hi, I'm Jonathan Kent, and it's been my great pleasure to know and love your son like my own."
There was no stopping the tears, so Lex just pressed his face into Clark's chest and held on.
