So, on Wednesday, my master teacher had the other 5th grade student teacher and me teach a mini-lesson on sequencing. Overall, I think the lesson wasn't very good, but, well, I was. She was very impressed with my command and presence in front of the class. The only problem was, as usual, I talk to fast. I *really* need to slow down.
So, the result of this? I'm taking over math next week. Which is fine and great, except math and I don't exactly miss, but it's fifth grade math, so I guess I'll be okay. And, I get my first formal evaluation from my university supervisor on Thursday, and I'll be teaching math. I'm sure I'll be fine, I'm just nervous. I'm told it's normal.
I managed to mostly avoid dwelling on 9/11 today. This was partly helped by the fact I was working, and also by the fact my master teacher's son came today to talk about being a world champion (or, former world champion) in hacky-sack/footbagging. It was interesting.
In the morning, the school assembled to do the pledge and sing "God Bless the USA" together. I cried. Of course. I swear I can't help it. Even when I'm frustrated and angry at politics and everything, demonstrates of patriotism by children always get me. Anyway, I was embarrassed, by my master teacher told me that I have the heart of a teacher and have to teach fifth grade since that's the year you teach American history. Still, I wish I could do it without crying.
