Ug

I felt fine when I woke up this morning. The headache I've had for 2 days was gone, I was in a good mood, things were good. I decided that I'd go to teh comic book store, swing by the mall to see if there was anything good on sale at the Anne Taylor Factory store, drop by the Dockers store to get one of the shirts I saw last week, then turn in my Educator info at Borders.

The comic book store did not have Fallen Angel. Anne Taylor Factory store had crap on sale (no, really; it was digusting) and everything else cost an arm and a leg (literally! what's up with the world). The shirts at Dockers were all too big. I did get ST: Nemsis at Borders for cheap, which was good. So, I decided to treat myself to lunch.

And now I'm sick. I haven't thrown up (thank God) but I almsot did on the way home. Does food poisioning hit that fast? So, I'm exhausted, achy, stomach hurts, and I'm NOT HAPPY!

However, I did realize a horribly angsty yet "it makes so much sense" direction to go in COTW for Insurgance-Suspect-Rush-Prodigal. I might be able to bat 4 episodes out with one to two fics. :)

Pity me.

Dinner

I was feeling a little better this evening, so I was able to go out to dinner with the family and eat *gasp* real food. Well, sort of. Vegetable soup that was more vegetables than soup, and macaori which was just pasta with some cheese sprinkled on it. It wasn't very flavorful.

Weird thing: the dude who sat us? Kept staring at me. Like, eye contact from the moment I walked in until I sat. It was very disconcerting, but I figured I was just imagining it. Then, my mom leans over and says, "Um, was that guy looking at you a lot?" My sister noticed it to. I don't think my dad heard us talking.

I think that, both times in my life random guys have noticed me, i've looked like a mess. The first time, I'd run to Rite-Aid for something. I wasn't wearing make up, my clothes were messy, and my hair was in a pony tail. The guy behind the register (who i guess I went to high school with) asked me out. This time, my hair was probalby sticking straight up becuase I've been sleeping all day, I was tired and headachy, I get stared out. Now, it's possible I had something stare-worth on my face, but since no one said anything, I'm assuming not.

Pet Peeves

I figured out what bothers me so much about fandom/fanfic pet peeves lists. The way I see them, they're basically attempts to inform large groups of people that their interpretation of the characters is wrong.

You think Character A and B wants children together, to raise them and to worry about all the mundane things that go along with domestic life? You're wrong. These are a. men, and b. tough men who are (fill in whatever their jobs are in your fandom).

You think Character B is a bottom? Wrong.

You think Character A and B might get to a point in their relationship where they'd call each other pet names? You're wrong.

It's not just the feeling I get where I'm being told my interpretation is wrong (and believe me, even when I agree with the pet peeve, I don't like the list), but it's the generalization. The way the list is set up is even if your fic has an engaging story line and good characterization, good grammar and mechanics, and is the type of story the reader enjoys, if any one of the pet peeves is hit, it's automatically a bad or annoying story. Obviously, this is sucky feedback, so people with sense don't give up, but they have no problems with shaking fingers at the fandom and letting them know who they are by posting the list.

You know what? You don't want to read my fic because I have Clark call Lex baby, that's fine. I feel sorry for you because the main story I do it in is fantastic, but if it's not your interpretation of the characters, there's nothing I can do about it. Because, sadly, if your interpretation isn't any more right than mine, then mine isn't any more right than yours and I can't say anything about it.
