GIP and Hothead

lil_lj for the new icon!!!
I'm watching Hothead right now. I know it's not one of the best episodes, but I really like it. First of all, it's got Dominic. And uber-queeny Lex interacting with Dominic, which always makes me smile. Second, upon watching it for the second or third time, I've decided I really like Lana in this episode. She went out and *did* something for herself, a trait that she lost during second season when I think it became more of her trying to manipulate other people into entering her sphere. Yes, she still persued things, like Henry Small or staying in Smallville, but it was different. More desperate and frustrating and whiney. I like early S1 Lana because she was being more of a typical teenager. At least one who is fed up with trying to be like other people, which I can certinatly empathize with.
Hothead also has one of my all time favorite scenes, which is the one with Lex, Lana, and Clark in the Beanery, bitching about their parents. They just really seemed like they were all friends at this moment, or could be friends. Had they continued with that steady chemistry and easy interaction, I could easily be a Lex/Clark/Lana 'shipper. But something fell apart, and maybe the more I watch the early episodes with this all in mind, I'll be able to see what changed for me.
Oh, and Lex is a whole hell of a lot younger in this episode, at least around his father. This episode and the past two I could really see the young man who's slowly emerging from his teenage rebellion to something more mature and adult. He's not quite there yet, not on the level of S2. I'm wondering if the more adult maturity is going to come in later in S1 or after "Vortex" (shooting Nixon). Although, watching the last Lex/Lionel scene there, I can see him leaving the snotty teenager behind and revealing the competent businessman.
Anyway, I'm rewriting every single scene of the fic I just wrote. I've never done such a massive rehaul before, but, so far, every scene has changed dramatically. Yes, it was *that* bad the first time I wrote it. ;)
ETA: fixed tag and to say about ( the trailer fornext week's episode )
