Against the grain

So, current fanon is that the argument between Steve and Tony in the preview (the 'what are you without your suit'*) is their first meeting. It's come up in almost every fic I've read, as a jumping off point for stuff on the kinkmeme, etc. But, I'm going to go out on a limb (and probably get it chopped out from under me) and say that that is not their first meeting. I bet the bit at the end where Tony tells Bruce how much he admires him is the first meeting of the Avengers, and the fight is either after a training session that goes wrong because Tony is a jerk, a fight that goes wrong because Tony is a jerk (I say jerk, but what I mean is goes against orders) or otherwise does something to make Steve legitimately angry enough to lash out (because I don't think Steve would be anti-Tony just because he's a man in a suit; I think he'd give Tony a chance to prove himself before shutting him down).

So. I wish there was at least one fic that went that way.
