they did change a lot, though I get why (mostly a compressed time kind of thing that was enforced by the transfer to film-form)...and by way of making each kid a sort of symbol of various experiences. What you said about Susan is spot on, and I think it was that way in the book too, but so subtle i didn't get it till they did it more openly in this flick. Peter as anger-management was new, and necessary, I think, as you said, to highlight that dichotomy. I had wondered about that too, in the books. In Lewis, they go back to their lives and all's well for a year. In real life/psychological terms, this woudl be trauma, and Peter expressing that made me happy...even if he was a dick to Caspian. No moonlight and roses like the novel, where everyone meets up and works together and all's well. But then part of that came from the compressed time thing too, forcing Peter to be THERE and responsible for the one big lost battle, rather than coming in to help save everyone AFTERWARD. Well, that and there wasn't time for Caspian and his Old Narnians to have built up months of faith in and devotion to each other as part of the same cause, one Caspian was raised by his prof to espouse, rather than just as companions of necessity who don't really trust each other. That changed the Old Narnian w/ reluctantly-accepted foreign (Telmarine) king dynamic. Though the payoffs (with Peter before the mano a mano with Miraz, and when Caspian chooses a side and becomes an Old Narnian in his heart, not just by necessity, when he chooses not to kill his uncle and be 'his kind' of Telmarine king) were much better with the bitter buildup. Neither scene was in the book, but that doesn't mean they weren't emotionally fulfilling.

seriously, my big problem was mostly i hated that they started playing that song at the end as the kids left. Why couldn't they wait till the end credits and stick with instrumentals? I hate when movies like this have modern music playing over the top of something NOT modern! but that might be just my hangup.

I also liked seeing more political moaneuvering with the Telmarine council. Made it more adult-friendly. The book version was so smooth there that it would have made it too easy to swallow for an adult viewer.

Note: Caspian was supposed to be younger when the book started but was stated to be 'about Peter's age' by the time they met him, so it works.
