And why does Sam want to see Morgan?

It's not so much that he does, exactly. He wants to prepare himself in case he has to, and, with the appearance of Williams, he's trying to prepare for the possibility that maybe, just maybe, 2006 was something he made up. Or, at the very least, he could break up with (or punch) Morgan for Williams' sake.
